The Trip to San Diego - Day 1

Dominic left California just over 6 years ago with the intention of moving home in the future. This goal, was finally reachable when he received the phone call about the opportunity to open an office in San Diego. The phone call came back in August while I was visiting my family in Ohio, so he called me to discuss it and we agreed it was the best move. This gave us about 10 weeks to pack, find a home, and do all the other necessary things that go along with such a big move.

So on Monday October 25th we set out for our new home in San Diego. We got up early to finish loading the last of our belongings into the moving truck. We had said our goodbyes - many tearful - throughout the previous week. So we stopped for breakfast, then began our journey. I had an awful headache for more than half of the day...

so some comic relief will best describe the parts that I was trying so hard to sleep through.

We headed north to Oklahoma and were watching Monsters Inc when we crossed the border. Audrey was sleeping, and I was making my best effort to do so. We turned west onto route 40 in Oklahoma City.

As I started feeling a bit better, I snapped some pictures. This one is Audrey playing with her bunny graham cracker - making it hop along the arm of her carseat.

We passed through the hometowns of Toby Keith and Garth Brooks, and learned that the shopping cart was invented in Oklahoma - good stuff.

No we didn't turn around, but we did enter back into Texas. Apparently we took the scenic route. We were jamming to some Tom Petty and Eliza was out like a light.

In Amarillo, we had dinner at The Big Texan. It has been featured on Man vs. Food (one of Dom's favorite shows), and boasts a FREE 72oz. steak. Of course, its only free if you can eat the whole thing and the sides in under an hour. One guy took the challenge while we were there, but gave up with 30 minutes remaining.

Audrey loved the mac n' cheese and her new hat!

Eliza was very excited to sit in the giant rocking chair.

We crossed into New Mexico "Land of Enchantment" as the sun was setting. We were watching The Sword and the Stone. A couple hours later, we stopped in Santa Rosa for the night. Our hotel was on Historic Route 66. Both of the girls were ready and we all went right to sleep.

Note: Dominic beat me at the alphabet game after dinner, but we were neck and neck the whole time and both down to the letter Z. Also we saw 24 US license plates and Ontario.
