#3 See The Grand Canyon (Day 2 - Part 2)

As we drove in to Flagstaff and began heading north, the excitement was building. We were on the way to the Grand Canyon, and it was a race against time to get there before the sun set.

We went through downtown Flagstaff on Historic Route 66, which we crossed over multiple times throughout our entire trip.

Unlike the desert we had been traveling through most of the first day, we were now surrounded by thick forests and mountains. It was so beautiful - not to mention a welcome change! We drove through the Cococino National Forest, where we were at 8046 feet elevation at the highest point.

One of the snow topped mountains.

We left the mountains behind, and entered into the Kaibab National Forest.

A long empty road since it was a Tuesday.

We made it to the Grand Canyon just in time to see all God's splendor with the setting sun. It was beyond words...

Dominic and the girls. It was only 45 degrees, so we were all bundled up.

The girls and I.

Dominic and Eliza coming back up from a short path that had railings out a bit from the top.

Sunset at the end of an unforgettable day.

Note: We saw 17 new US license plates plus Alberta and Quebec - bringing our total up to 41 US and 3 Canadian.
