Seals, Sand and Sun

Tis the season for the birth of the seal pups!

So we went to La Jolla with our playgroup to see the seals.  There were quite a few new pups since our last trip in February.  It was cloudy when we got there in the morning, but the sun came out later on.  I still managed to get a little sunburned.

We walked out on the walkway to get a closer look and the waves were coming in pretty hard.  Brooke and Eliza were watching the waves and screaming when they got close.  We did get sprayed a bit with some of the larger ones.

Then we walked over to Shell Beach to play.

Eliza pretending to be cautious of the water - Ha!  The waves were pretty big, but the tide was on the way out.  There was a definite line where the sand turned to large rocks, so I made it clear to stay on the sand, and all the kids did really well with that rule.

Audrey, having no interest in the water, decided to check out this little cave.

She was pointing to the letters she saw from people carving stuff in the rock.

 Some of our friends brought some cool sand toys so the girls were both excited to check them out.

 Eliza moved on to searching for shells with Brooke.

 She loves the big mussel shells with the purplish blue on them.

Audrey was happy to stay near the towel and find pretty pieces of shells.

We took some time to explore the tide pools.  The girls love to watch the hermit crabs moving around, and spot anemones.

 Audrey sat on a dry rock while Eliza and I got our feet wet nearby.

Eliza sat with her for a picture, but neither of them wanted to look at the camera.

 Luckily, I was still able to capture some loving moments like this one.
