I was inspired by another blog, Design Sponge, to make a terrarium with Eliza. I know how much she likes to explore in our backyard and wants so badly to have a garden of her own. I figured until I could get everything together for the fairy garden, this would be a good start. So we grabbed a shovel, and a little basket to put our plants in. Our neighbor Jeannie had already given us some moss she found on the stone wall in the yard.
We saw a ladybug on one of Jeannie's potted plants on the way down to the canyon. When we got down there, we found that the rose bush had one bud on it and more that would be blooming soon as well.
As we began looking for small plants to take back up with us, we spotted a dinosaur! What a treasure to find in our own yard - wink wink. Eliza was excited to take it back up to the house and wash it off.
Then we got down to business. Eliza dug up this small plant, doing a great job of getting the roots to replant.
I didn't get many more pictures while we were scavenging for plants, but here is what we brought back with us. I found the little one in a sidewalk crack. Eliza picked a nice pinkish colored rock and we had a small pine cone that Audrey brought home from another adventure. Unfortunately the pine cone didn't fit in the jar.
The finished terrarium. Its supposed to be easy to take care of... I have it in a place inside that gets lots of indirect sun and I just need to check that its not too dry every once in a while. Hopefully this will be enough. Eliza doesn't seem to care about the finished product as much as the ladybug way at the beginning of the adventure anyway.
