For the second year in a row, we were able to go out with our friends Kris and Mia for New Years. It was so much fun! We went to a party at their friend Daniel's house and brought in the New Year with some delicious Columbian food and traditions. Just before midnight, we were given handfuls of lentils to put in our pockets for good luck, and a bag with 12 grapes. The grapes were to be eaten the last 12 seconds of the year, making a wish with each one... needless to say, we had some trouble eating 12 grapes in 12 seconds! We also had party hats, beads, noisemakers and of course champagne! It was a great way to celebrate the start of 2011!
The lentils are to be kept in our house for the year to bring prosperity...
I put most of them in a jar, but found a great used for a small handful - One of the girls' wooden spice jars from their play kitchen broke open before the holidays. I put some lentils inside and glued the top back on and it makes the perfect "spice" sound when they shake it.
