Exploring Old Mission Dam

This morning we met up with friends from our playgroup to explore Old Mission Dam. It was such a fun adventure! The girls are becoming quite the little explorers. Eliza wanted to see everything. She took the lead and told everyone to follow her as we climbed over rocks, mud, sand and even a fallen tree trunk.

We started right by the dam itself, and the kids were all happy to throw rocks into the water.

Eliza leading the way!

Audrey is much more cautious about her footing, but did really well most of the time. I carried her over some of the rocks, and lifted her over mud and trees.

Eliza led all the kids under the tree as she fearlessly crawled underneath to the other side. Audrey thought about it, then stood up and waited for me to lift her over.

This bridge over the river was really cool. We stopped for a quick snack before heading back across and along the trail back to the cars.

There are woolly bear caterpillars all over the place right now! The kids had no trouble finding them as they were crawling right across the middle of the trail. My girls are certainly not afraid to pick them up and get a closer look.

There was a big sycamore near the parking lot and Audrey found this branch underneath it. She thought it was like a dandelion and blew on it to see what would happen - nothing did. Then she held it tightly until we walked back to our car, at which point she quickly threw it on the ground and cuddled with her blanket instead.
