Halloween at the Lagoon

This afternoon, we went to one of our favorite places for exploring nature - the San Elijo Lagoon.  We got to learn about some of the nocturnal animals that visit the lagoon after sunset.  There were crafts in the visitor's center, a Halloween Scavenger Hunt on the trail, and so much more.

We started by checking out the bat cave.  It was dark inside, so I didn't get any other pictures.  There were lots of fake bats hanging around, and black lights that illuminated signs with bat facts on them.  We got to check out some live bats in a cage outside.

We made suckers into spiders in the craft area.

They got to touch a snake, and check out a raccoon before starting on the trail.

Eliza did really great answering most of the clues for the scavenger hunt by herself.  She matched the various animals with the right number as we came to each station.  There was candy at each one too, which is all that Audrey cared about... she wanted each one opened for her to eat instead of putting it in her pumpkin.  Should make trick or treating interesting come Monday.

All finished.  We turned in the clipboard with all the answers, and got to take home a pumpkin.  There were some cool spiders to check out too.  We got tons of compliments on the girls' costumes, and they had so much fun showing them off!  I'm so glad they like them, since they'll be wearing them for 5 days straight starting Thursday.
