Today we took a trip down to Coshocton. I had come across the visitor's bureau webpage with all kinds of activities, when I was looking for "touristy" stuff to do in Ohio. This is vacation for us, so I wanted to do some new, fun things with the girls while we were visiting my family.
We started at Clary Gardens. I knew from the website that these botanic gardens were "under construction," but they were so new, it was like walking around someone's nicely landscaped yard. There was a nice amphitheater and the gardens that were there were beautiful. This actually worked out, since we were running later than we had planned. We took a few pictures, then headed back into town. We ate a picnic lunch, then went to find the Canal Boat landing.

I remember learning about the Ohio - Erie Canal in school, but riding on a canal boat that was still pulled by horses, was new to us all.

As we went down the canal, Audrey was watching everything and pointing out imaginary crocodiles, snakes, and other creatures.
We came to a wide area of the canal, where we turned around to head back to the landing.

The girls' favorite part of the ride was getting to go up the steps to the back and front ends of the boat.

This is at the back of the boat, and is used to steer.
After the ride, we headed back to town to check out Roscoe Village. It is set up like an old canal town, with blacksmith, general store, one room schoolhouse etc.

The visitor's center had crafts for the kids to do - making a quilt square, dipping candles, pounding a design into tin, and more.
Audrey, Isabella, and Sage chose to paint tops.
Lloyd made candles.
Eliza was super excited to make a doll - a "handkerchief" or "church doll." She helped tie the knots and glue on the ribbon and lace.
So happy with the finished doll. She named her Lisa.
There were dress up clothes, and other games and crafts at the visitor's center too.
Next we enjoyed some delicious, homemade, frozen custard on an almost hidden little outdoor patio.
We walked around some of the outdoor gardens and paths, and came across "Eliza's Garden."

It was a hot, tiring day, but overall it was fun. We had planned to have dinner at one of the local wineries, but it turned out to be closed on Sundays - which I somehow read wrong on their website. It was disappointing, but we headed back towards home, and stopped in Canton to have dinner at Carrabbas.

Ok, so Eliza's haircut is precious. (and so is her yellow flower clippy) I've never seen her with short hair! And it is crazy to read about Audrey talking and being so little girl-like. In my head she is the baby that she was when you guys left. :)
