Snack Time with the Polar Bears

Another great experience at the zoo yesterday.  We got there just in time to see the polar bears during snack time.

The sign leading into the exhibit.

When we got up to the glass to look in at the bears, they were off towards the back of the exhibit, but this one walked up to the edge of the water a few minutes later...

and took a drink.

The girls were super excited!  They started talking to the bear, telling him to go in the water so we could see him even closer.  The water goes right up to the window.

He decided to stay there near the edge and munch on some carrots instead.  So we watched a bit longer, then decided to move on.  As we walked around the corner of the glass, one of the zookeepers was getting another snack ready to feed the bears.  We stopped to see what was going to happen, and thank goodness we didn't miss it!

The polar bear came over to this fenced area to eat some grapes and other snacks right out of the zookeepers hand!  The area was roped off so nobody could get too close and stick their fingers in, but we were right up to the ropes.  It was awesome!  Eliza was surprised that all the snacks the bears were eating were "human food."

The area was really crowded (actually the whole zoo was more crowded than we've seen it before), so we moved back to let some other kids get a closer look.  Then we headed towards the Children's Zoo to meet up with our friends Sarah, Collette, and Jasper.  We got a little lost on the way, but found more new exhibits we hadn't seen before.  Eliza and Audrey especially liked the reptiles.

Audrey loved this huge python!  She was so excited because it was moving around a lot.

They both enjoyed these big turtles and little crocodiles.  The turtle here has a really long neck and it came up to the glass and looked right at us.

Eliza checking out the Mexican Beaded Lizard in the reptile house.

We saw the sea lion show at the end of the day as well.

It was really great!  They don't have the sea lions on exhibit anywhere, so the only way to see them is to go to the show.  The girls and I will definitely go see it again!

  1. My boys love the polar bear exhibit, too. I love telling them that mom & dad have actually seen polar bears in the wild! :)
