Today we spent some time with the 10 week old baby hippo and his mom. He was so cute! When we first got to the exhibit the 2 hippos were off a bit and hard for the kids to see, but then they swam right up to us. All the kids were touching, and even hugging the baby through the glass. It was such a special experience for us all!
Eliza and Audrey checking out the baby - Adhama. Our friend Mia is in the middle with the pigtails.
Eliza saying hi. (This picture won us a backstage tour of the zoo!)
Audrey was pointing excitedly at the baby, happy that he was so close to her.
A nice picture of Adhama and his Mommy. It was hard to get clear pictures with all the reflections on our side of the glass.
We spent a few hours at the zoo checking out more "new to us" exhibits with friends from our playgroup. There was a Macaw flyover and racing pigeon release to kick off the day. We saw one of the tigers, more monkeys we'd missed before, and some very playful otters. The girls were able to go in the petting zoo to pet goats and sheep this time, and we saw a bug show - but Audrey didn't like it so her and I missed most of it while we waited in the back. We stopped in the gift shop before heading out since Eliza has been begging to buy something with her money. She picked a nice wooden Jungle Puzzle and Audrey got an orange caterpillar wind up toy that made me think of my Aunt Candy, who collects wind up toys.
I can't wait to show this post to Camden tomorrow. She will be SOOO jealous! She's obsessed with hippos, you know. What a neat experience!!!
