Living Coast Discovery Center

Eliza had 2 days off of school this week so we took advantage of the extra time to revisit the Chula Vista Nature Center.  Since our LAST VISIT in February, the center was renamed.  It is now the Living Coast Discovery Center.

One of the big exhibits there right now is called Washed Ashore.  Its all kinds of huge sculptures made only from trash that has washed ashore.  We saw some on our last visit, but there were even more sculptures this time.  This giant seal was right out front.

The octopus had hundreds of babies - that's Eliza's pointer finger
Inside, we took our time looking at everything.  The girls really saw everything instead of running from window to window like last time.

We couldn't get enough of the beautiful starfish, and the red sea urchin was super cool.

Audrey with another of the new washed ashore pieces.

Audrey by the sharks.  We had more pictures of Audrey because Eliza took over an hour coloring her butterfly in the craft area.  Audrey and I did a little exploring nearby while we were waiting on her.

So proud of her turtle - who she named Aaron.  She colored the legs, tail, and head, the shell was an upside down bowl with scraps of tissue paper and lots of glitter.

Eliza decided to make a USC butterfly - named Barkley (after Matt Barkley the quarterback).

When Eliza was finally done, Audrey took her to see the trash art.

It was so colorful!

My little chickies.

The sting rays were more active this time, so I got to touch them quite a bit.  Eliza said she was going to try, but when one got close, she pulled her hands back.  Audrey had no interest in touching them at all.  They are pretty awesome to just watch though, so we stayed in there for a while.
