We felt that it was about time for the girls to be exposed to some quality film making and culture. They had yet to learn about the ways of the force. Audrey was excited since her friends at school love Star Wars, but Eliza was skeptical, so we built a fort and told them it was the greatest love story ever told. We promised them princesses, rescues, and funny robots, which seemed enough to coerce Eliza.
| fort built, ready for episode IV |
We started Friday night (Valentine's) with Episode IV - A New Hope. They stayed up until 10:00 and both of them loved that the good guys won, and couldn't wait for the next one.
Saturday, Abbey was off to a bridal shower, and the girls couldn't wait to watch the next part - the best part! So we watched Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. Eliza was in shock when she found out that Darth Vader was Luke's father, and had so many questions about how Anakin became Darth Vader. I explained that episodes 1-3 told the story of how Anakin turns to the dark side, and that we would have to watch those next. When Abbey came home, they were excited to tell her all about what she missed. Audrey kept telling her about "Black Vader" or "Dark Vader" and how he cut off Luke's hand. They both told her about the "dinosaurs" in this episode as well (referring to the Imperial Walkers), and of course Yoda.
Today after breakfast, Audrey was super excited to put in Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. They couldn't wait to find out what happened to Han Solo and if his friends would rescue him, or if he would stay frozen in carbonite. They also knew that Darth Vader was still out there and didn't know if the good guys or the bad guys were going to win. They couldn't believe that they were building another Death Star, and Eliza was so confused how there could be people in it before it was finished. The funniest part was that every time Darth Vader came on screen, Eliza would do the force death grip at the TV. Obviously when the ewoks came on the girls were excited, they thought they were so cute. We had to force Eliza to watch the battle between Luke and The Emperor, because his face was too scary.
When it was all said and done, the girls were both happy that they watched Star Wars and they can't wait to see the rest.
