Back to School

After a whole month off for winter break, Eliza went back to school this morning.  She was excited to see her friends again and show off her "fancy" new outfit and haircut (we have been reading some of the Fancy Nancy books lately, so that was Eliza's description of her new clothes).

During break, Eliza had to keep a Winter Break Journal.  She wrote in it three times a week, telling Mrs Goforth all about our activities, what she got for Christmas, and even a story she made up based on one of the sketches she made with her new fashion plates.  Some days she was happy to write in the journal, but towards the end she grew bored with it.  She just wants to draw pictures and color all the time.  She was doing great at remembering how to spell words she knew, and trying to sound out some of the ones she didn't know.  Hopefully her love of reading will eventually carry into the writing part, or at least enough to get through the homework.

She brought home a new journal with an assignment to write in it 3 to 4 times a week for the rest of the year.  I am going to have to refrain from spelling all the words for her, since the assignment stated specifically to help them sound out words and write them how THEY think they are spelled.  Just with the winter break journal, I found myself and my perfectionism coming through... I guess I should try not to teach her that habit.
