Tears

At Eliza's school this is the morning routine:

Arrive anytime before 7:40
Head to the lunch tables to sit with all the students in the school, where only a couple teachers are supervising
The first bell rings at 740
ALL the students make a mad dash to their classrooms, lugging their backpacks, jackets, etc.
Hang backpacks on the hooks outside the classroom
Take out lunch, snack, and black folder
Go into classroom, putting these things in their respective places.

I have been parking, walking with, and staying with Eliza each morning until she's safely in her classroom.  Many of the kindergarten parents are already just dropping off their kids at the traffic circle, as is expected eventually.  I cannot even fathom this.  It is like a zoo when that bell rings, not to mention she has trouble getting all 3 items from her bag, zipping it back up, and carrying them in.  But besides that, Eliza is uncomfortable just sitting down any ol' place when we get to the lunch tables.  She was in tears about it this morning for the first time, because she wanted to sit next to the same boy she sat next to yesterday, but there was no room.  She is afraid to sit next to someone she doesn't know.  The one supervisor is responsible for making sure all the kids sit down, instead of milling about.  She told Eliza twice today, but left us alone when she realized I was working on it, and Eliza was obviously upset about something.  I am thankful that they have signs on the tables clearly marking certain tables for each grade, so she won't be next to a bunch of 5th graders, but its still hard to see her so upset/nervous about this each morning.  She is usually so outgoing, and  friendly to everyone, but there are just sooo many strangers in this one place.  I think some of the other parents in her classroom must be waiting in cars for the bell, or something, because she really didn't seem to know anyone but the one little boy today.  I am torn about doing this, because it won't last forever and I don't want her to have to start all over on this.

  1. So not looking forward to letting my babies go, so I feel your pain. Eliza is so fearless... she'll get the hang of it soon.
