Safari Park and Butterflies

Today we went out to the Safari Park to see the Butterfly Jungle that just started this weekend.  Its always such a great exhibit, and the girls were super excited.  We got our timed entry tickets, and went to check out some other exhibits until our time came.

We started with the bats, then checked out a brand new play area.

There were lots of drums to play.

The girls' favorite part was pumping water and then carrying it from basin to basin using the gourds.

Spring time means wisteria is in full bloom!  I just love it!
Then it was time to go see the butterflies!

Dominic had one land on him within minutes of walking in.  He was standing in the sun, and one of the guides told us that the warmth is what attracted the butterflies to his dull gray shirt.  The girls and I were all dressed in bright colors in hopes that they would be attracted to us.

Audrey and I standing very still and waiting.

Another one on Daddy, Audrey was happy to see it up close.

A blue-morpho butterfly.  They were so big and beautiful.

Such amazing detail!

Daddy held Audrey up into the sunlight, and a butterfly finally "picked" her!  She was ecstatic!

Tickling her toes.

One landed on my head too.

And last but not least, Eliza had one land on her arm while I was holding her.

We got to see the 3 week old baby white rhino when we took the Safari Tram.

And the girls sat and talked with Robert the Grevy's zebra.  This was new since our last visit too, and was really cool.  There is obviously a person behind the scenes using a camera to see and hear the kids, but it seems to them like the zebra is really talking with them.  He answers their questions and responds to things that they say, so it seems so real.

What a fun day!

  1. How fun! I love the bat picture. Fort Worth's black rhinos had a baby this year too. :)
