The Texas Bluebonnets

The Irish have their shamrocks and the Dutch their Tulips. The Japanese treasure their cherry blossoms and the English their roses. Texas loves its bluebonnets, which cover the hills and valleys of the state with brilliant blue from mid-March to May. The bluebonnet has been the official Texas state flower for more than a century. A member of the lupine family, its official name is "lupinus texenis" though it is also sometimes called buffalo clover and wolf flower. By whatever name it is called, the appearance of the first bluebonnet always signals the arrival of spring in Texas. (Author Unknown)

So one evening, the girls and I got dressed up and went to take pictures in a field of bluebonnets. As my friend Casey put it, "It's just what you do in Texas." We pulled off the highway in a not so busy area, and walked down the big hill to get away from the road a bit. Both of the girls were happy to be outside and exploring a new area.

Eliza loved the pretty flowers, the lady bugs, and seeing some good friends too.

Audrey wasn't so sure about sitting, or standing for that matter, in the tall itchy grass. She lit up when she saw our friends arrive though.

Eliza is getting so good at cheering Audrey up when she's fussy. She was being so sweet, giving her a kiss and making her smile.
